The Uncomfortable Cross

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)

“If you are going to follow Jesus, you better look good on wood.” ~ Father Daniel Berrigan

Day 1: Read Mark 8:34. What does it mean for you to take up your cross and follow Jesus? How did such words impact you yesterday? As you look ahead to today?

Day 2: Read 2 Timothy 2:1-3. When does guilt get to you? How does grace guide you? Who do you sense the Holy Spirit nudging you to share God’s grace with today?

Day 3: Read 2 Timothy 2:4. What wisdom do you need to ask God for now? What tension points are you facing between doing God’s will and following the ways of the world?

Day 4: Read 2 Timothy 2:5-7. Reflect on Paul’s 2 examples about following God’s way (the athlete and the farmer). How do they speak into your life as you seek to do God’s will this week?

Day 5: Read 2 Timothy 2: 8-10. Where do you find yourself suffering for the sake of the Gospel? Who can you pray for today to know Jesus? To share Jesus' story?

Day 6: Read 2 Timothy 2:11-13. You might think faithfulness is based on how hard you try or seeking to relieve the guilt you feel, but it’s based on God’s grace, His gift, and how you and I put that gift to work each and every day because if you are going to follow Jesus, you better look good on wood. How are you looking?

Our annual theme for 2022/2023 is "DEVOTED" from Acts 2:42.
