This week Pastor Burkey invites us to begin to develop a spiritual habit called “Lectio Divina” (Spiritual Reading):

  • Reflect/Meditatio
  • Respond/Oratio
  • Rest/Contemplatio
  • Resolve/Incarnatio

Pastor Burkey has found Lectio Divina to be a powerful tool for God speaking into his daily life as he engages in His Word in no more than 8 verses a reading. Here are the guidelines he uses, and 6 days of passages for us to use. The first 2 days he will pick the phrase (sometimes it’s only a word), and then he will let us choose the other 4 days. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS.

Day 1: Read/Lectio: Mark 10:46-52: Phrase: vs. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?”

Day 2: Read/Lectio: Psalm 23:1-6: Phrase: vs. 1 “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”

Day 3: Read/Lectio: Philippians 3:8-9. Phrase: ________________________.

Day 4: Read/Lectio: Philippians 3:10-11. Phrase: ________________________.

Day 5: Read/Lectio: Philippians 3:12. Phrase: ________________________.

Day 6: Read/Lectio: Philippians 3:13-14. Phrase: ________________________.

Good, Good Father

Lyrics-to-good-good-fatherReservationsChurch@Home | GiveKeep Calm and Quarantine On

Day 1: Read Matthew 7:9-11. Jesus uses 3 of my favorite words to describe God as our good, good Father when he says, “how much more”. How much more have you seen the goodness of God at work in your life in the past week? What leads you to praise God as your good, good Father today?

Day 2: Read 1 John 3:1. You may believe you are a child of God, but do you believe, really believe to your very core, that you are loved by God? Where in your life do you need to remind yourself that God likes you, really likes you?

Day 3: Read Matthew 7:7-8. God is not distant during our difficult times. He is close. Pray to Him and ask the questions that are on your heart today?

Day 4: Read Psalm 103:13-14. When we fail to do what is right, when we do want is wrong, Satan seeks to beat us up with guilt. His diabolic goal is to split us from God’s loving embrace. The psalmist reminds us – Our good, good Father has compassion for us. That’s why Jesus came. That’s why He died and rose again, that you and I might have life with this great God who is our good, good Father. Take time today to confess your sins and be reminded of the forgiveness Jesus brings because your good, good Father.

Day 5: Read Matthew 7:12. This is Matthew’s version of the Golden Rule. How does such a statement by Jesus describe the life Jesus lived, our good, good Father lives and how you are to live this day?

Day 6: Read John 3:16 and 1 John 3:16. How do these two verses describe your good, good Father’s love for you? How have you seen the good, good Father’s love at work for you and through you this past week?

Reconciliation

Quote_From_St_Clement

Pastor Travis challenges us in this week's sermon to become stronger in "reconciliation" just as Jesus reconciles us.  What is reconciliation:

  • The action of reestablishing a relationship between two people who are on bad terms.
  • The replacement of hostility with peaceful relations.

As you read the scriptures below this week consider:

  • Where do you need racial reconciliation?
  • Where do you need family reconciliation?
  • Where do you need workspace reconciliation?
  • Where do I need reconciliation with God?

Day 1: Read Romans 5:6 and then prayerfully consider the questions above.

Day 2: Read Matthew 5:8 and then prayerfully consider the questions above.

Day 3: Read Matthew 5:11 and then prayerfully consider the questions above.

Day 4: Read Matthew 5:15 and then prayerfully consider the questions above.

Day 5: Pray for God to help you to let go of your pride, politics, and prejudices to pursue reconciliation.

Day 6: Pray for God to help you to give love, favor, and respect to those who need reconciliation.

Option A: Make Disciples!

Each day this week pray for someone you know who doesn’t know Jesus to come to know Him as Lord and Savior.

Dear God, You desire all people to come to know Jesus and be saved. Today I pray for ____________________ to be led by You to receive Jesus. Lord Jesus, I praise You for the life You gave on the cross, to forgive our sins and bring us into God’s family. Holy Spirit, open my awareness today to the opportunities You place before me to show Jesus in how I live and to share Jesus in what I say and how I listen. In His name I pray. Amen.

Day 1: Read Matthew 28:16-20. Why do you think God entrusted His work to people? How have you seen yourself as part of God’s missionary team? How do you see your position on God’s mission team today?

Day 2: Read Matthew 28:16-17. After Jesus rises from the dead, he meets His disciples in Galilee. Interesting that some worshiped Him, and some doubted. When do you find it easy to worship Jesus? What are some doubts you are facing? Take them to Jesus in prayer and ask for His guidance.

Day 3: Read Matthew 28:18. Notice Jesus doesn’t say some authority or even most authority. Jesus says, “all authority!” Where do you need to remind yourself today Jesus is in control?

Day 4: Read Matthew 28:19. A better translation of the word ”go” is “as you go”. The word go suggests headed to a specific destination. As you go is a reminder as you live life each day Jesus is present and wants to work through you to lead others to know Him. How have you seen Jesus working in your life this week? As you go through the day, remember Jesus is here! He is with you! Ask Him to guide you as you live out the day ahead!

Day 5: Read Matthew 28:20. Interesting Jesus doesn’t say go tell people instead He says to teach people. Who was your favorite teacher in school? What made that teacher so special? How might God be using you to teach instead someone about Jesus?

Day 6: Read Matthew 28:19-20. These verses are called the Great Commission. Jesus invitation to live life with Him and the challenge to share that life with others. As you have prayed for someone to come to know Jesus, continue to pray for them and for others to know Jesus. How has God used you this week on His missionary team? Where do you think He might lead you in the week ahead?
