Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message on being a humble servant from God’s Life-building Word based on Philippians 2:3-4 (NIVBELIEVE p. 481).

Monday: Read Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 481). Who or what is at center stage in your life? How do you move (or keep) Jesus in the center? What gets Jesus off center stage in your life?

Tuesday: Read Daniel 4:27 (NIV) and Daniel 4:34 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 489-490). A wise proverb says that pride goes before the fall. Nebuchadnezzar filled with empty conceit goes crazy, then is humbled, then lifts up the true God. Where might God be sounding a warning alarm concerning pride in your life? Like Daniel, where might God be leading you into a tough conversation and wanting you to lead with a humble heart? Pray (and continue to pray) for that person and your conversation together.

Wednesday: Read John 13:3-5 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 483). Jesus knew who He was, where He was from, where He was going, and what power and authority He had. How do you know this fully about yourself? Why does knowing these things about yourself make it possible for you to serve others without pride or resentment?

Thursday: Read Philippians 2:5-6 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 485). The phrase "did not consider equality with God something to be used for his own advantage" teaches that, although Jesus possessed the "very nature" of God, he did not demand his rights as God. Jesus could have appeared as the ruler of the universe. Instead, Jesus gave up all rights and came as a servant. Where is God calling you to add value to others by sacrificing an advantage you have to serve them with the love of Christ?

Friday: Read John 13:14-15 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 484). Who is someone you can serve today? How?

Saturday: Read Philippians 2:7-8 (NIV, BELIEVE p. 485). Why was Jesus willing to be crucified? In what specific ways is his example one you can apply?

  • Memorize This Week’s Key Idea: I choose to esteem others above myself.
