Monday: Read 1 John 4:10-12 (NIV). As the world defines and describes love, what do you think of love? As John defines and describes love, what is the same with the world’s definition and what is different? Why do we settle for the lesser form of love? How can we follow God to receive, share, and live His greater love in our world?
Tuesday: Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV). Pick a specific relationship (marriage, friend, co-worker, etc.) Go through each phrase that Paul writes as a checklist on how you are doing on loving one another. Take some time to confess your sins before God, seeking forgiveness. Give God thanks for His love which is ready and eager to forgive our sins.
Wednesday: Read 1 John 4:10 (NIV). God's love for us cost Him His Son. Christ's love for us cost Him His life. What would it cost you to love someone you need to love? What holds you back from paying that price? What encourages you to love sacrificially?
Thursday: Read 1 John 4:11 (NIV). How does God’s love motivate you to love others? Where do you need a special measure of His love to love others?
Friday: Read 1 John 4:12 (NIV). When have you seen God’s love at work in someone else’s life? How did that expression of love point you to God? What was your response? Where can you show God’s love to someone else?
Saturday: Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV). Read these verses with Jesus as the subject (love/it). Take time to praise Him for how He sacrificially and unconditionally loves you. Read these verses one more time, personalize them with your name as the subject (love/it). Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to love sacrificially and unconditionally. As you pray, focus on a specific person God is prompting you to show His love.
You can GO DEEPER this week by reading:
- Memorize This Week’s Memory Verse: 1 John 4:10-12 (BELIEVE p. 339) "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."
- Memorize This Week’s Key Idea: I am committed to loving God and loving others.
