Act: How Do I Best Use My Time To Serve God And Others?

Quadrants-GPS
Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Colossians 3:17 (page 289) as part of our BELIEVE series.

Monday: Read Colossians 3:17 (BELIEVE p. 289). Look at the four quadrants on page 1. Think about the day ahead in each quadrant. How can you live aware of God’s presence in each momhttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+5%3A16&version=NIVent for today?

Tuesday: Read Ephesians 5:15-17 (BELIEVE p. 302). Re-read these verses and personalize them as written especially for you. Think about a decision you are facing. Pray through your answer to the Andy Stanley question: What is the wise thing to do?

Wednesday: Read Ephesians 5:15 (BELIEVE p. 302). Think about a decision you are facing. Pray through your answer to the Andy Stanley question: What is the wise thing to do…in light of your past experiences…in light of your present circumstances …in light of your future hopes and dreams?

Thursday: Read Ephesians 5:16 (BELIEVE p. 302). The Greeks have two words for time. One is chronos (think calendar date), the other is kairos (think season or special moment). Track where your time goes today. How did you see God at work in your chronos time? What is your kairos moment where God might be inviting you to lean into and learn from Him?

Friday: Read Ephesians 5:17 (BELIEVE p. 302). How does understanding God’s will for your life influence how you face life each day? Where are you praying for God to give clarity in knowing His will? How has He been leading your use of time this week

Saturday: Read Colossians 3:17 (BELIEVE p. 289). To be incarnational with our time is to bring Jesus into all of life. Who I Am -> What I Do -> Result. In other words, who you are, and even more, who God is making you to be, determines what you do and influences the results you get. Take some time to work through this grid to see where God is working in your life and where you need Him to work.

Act: What Gifts And Skills Has God Given Me To Serve Others?

Spiritual-gifts

Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Romans 12:4-6a as part of our BELIEVE series.  Four big ideas from this week's message include:

  1. We all have gifts and skills that we can use to serve others.
  2. God will take your ordinary and make it extraordinary.
  3. “Each one of us was designed by God to be a tool that could change the course of human history.”Bill Hybels
  4.  You can determine your own spiritual gifts via this online tool - Spiritual Gift Analysis.

Monday: Read John 14:16 and John 14:26 (BELIEVE p. 281). Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. So what has the Holy Spirit been teaching you about your skills and gifts? What areas of life would you like to see His direction with your skills and gifts?

Tuesday: Read Romans 12:6a (BELIEVE p. 284). Think of 5 people you know. What are their unique gifts and skills they use to serve others? What is the same and different among your 5 people and their gifts and skills? What have others identified as your gifts and skills that have served them?

Wednesday: Read Daniel 2:19 (BELIEVE p. 278). In Daniel’s response to Nebuchadnezzar, three aspects of Daniel’s spiritual maturity shine: 1) His patient wisdom in response to the king’s pressure and crisis. 2) His prayer in seeking God for the answer. 3) His praise to God when he receives and shares that answer with others. How can Daniel’s example lead you to help someone else with a problem they are facing? Which of these three areas would you like the Spirit to bring forth growth in your life in the next 90 days

Thursday: Read 1 Peter 4:10 (BELIEVE p. 286). What do others receive when we use the gifts and skills God has given us? What do they miss when we don’t? In the week ahead, how might you use the gifts and skills God has given you to bless others in your family? In our church? At your work? In our community? To a stranger?

Friday: Read Romans 12:4 (BELIEVE p. 284). Where have you found your greatest joy in serving others? How are you continuing that service at this stage of your life? Where might the Holy Spirit be calling you to serve this year?

Saturday: Read Romans 12:5 (BELIEVE p. 284). Where have you been served by others using their skills and gifts? Take time to thank God for what they have done (and are doing) and then write them a thank you note and send it to them today.

Act: How Do I Develop Healthy Relationships With Others?

Relationships

Pastor John delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Acts 2:44-47 and Acts 4 as part of our BELIEVE series.

Monday:Read Ephesians 4:1-7. This is a beautiful passage in which Paul writes about Christian fellowship. What does Paul urge us to do as part of God's family? What does he warn us not to be doing? What binds us together in oneness?

Tuesday: Read 1 John 4:11, 1 John 4:21, Galatians 6:2, and Galatians 6:6.  The word "fellowship" comes from the Greek work koinonia, which can mean "sharing in common." Goad has given you much to share. As you read these verses, determine what you can share with others and one practical way to share it.

Wednesday: Read Hebrews 10:24-25 and Hebrews 3:13. What is the purpose of meeting together as believers? Why is it important to encourage one another daily? Why is fellowship important to you?  How have you benefited from relating to other followers of Jesus?

Thursday: Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-27. The church is called the Body of Christ. In this body each believer is given different but important opportunities in this body. Who gave the members their various functions? (1 Corinthians 12:18) What are some of His desires? (1 Corinthians 12:24-26) What attitude can lead to disharmony in the Body? (1 Corinthians 12:15-16, & 1 Corinthians 12:21) Do you ever struggle with feeling superior or inferior to others in the Body? If so, how do you deal with these feelings? (1 Corinthians 12:20-22)

Friday: Read Ephesians 4:11-16. Who is to equip the saints so they can do the work of the ministry? (Ephesians 4:11) What are some of the ultimate goals of biblical community? (Ephesians 4:13-16) What particular “work of service” (Ephesians 4:12) are you active in right now that God is using to build up others in the Body of Christ?

Saturday: Read 1 Corinthians 9:11 and 1 Corinthians 9:14. Meditate on this reading about the support of those who are appointed to preach and teach in the family of God. What instructions are you given? Are you presently giving back to God part of what He is giving you? What does God want you to do with regard to prayer and financial support for your spiritual leaders?

  • Memorizing This Week’s Memory Verse: Acts 2:44-47  (BELIEVE p. 256) "All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
  • Memorizing This Week’s BELIEVE Key Idea: "I fellowship with Christians to accomplish God's purposes in my life, in the lives of others, and in the world."

Act: How Do I Cultivate A Life Of Sacrificial Service?

Serve_like_jesus

Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Romans 12:1.

Monday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Acts 7:54-56 (BELIEVE p. 254).  When was a tough time you realized God was right beside you? Where do you need to be reminded God is with you now? Who do you know that could use some "God is with you" encouragement? When and how will you give that encouragement

Tuesday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Acts 7:59-60 (BELIEVE p. 254). God’s ready to help even before we call Him, even in tough situations like forgiving others. What do you learn from Stephen’s example in Acts? Where might you need to pray “Lord, do not hold this sin against them?”

Wednesday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Daniel 3:16-18 (BELIEVE p. 243-244). What do you notice about the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego? How do they show total surrender in this verse, as well as total trust in God? Where might you need to remind yourself, even if God does not answer our prayer the way we hope (like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego), we will still follow Him?

Thursday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Daniel 3:25 (BELIEVE p. 244). Christians see Jesus as the fourth one in the furnace. Total surrender to God is not to One who abandons us, but is with us. Though Jesus is not calling you into a literal furnace, where do you sense the Spirit calling you to sacrifice in your life?

Friday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Daniel 3:28 (BELIEVE p. 244). Dedicated sacrifice is not our only gift to God. Often it is the gift God uses to lead others to know Him. How does this work for Nebuchadnezzar? How have you seen this work in your life and through your life?

Saturday: Read Romans 12:1 (BELIEVE p. 240) and Luke 9:23-25 (BELIEVE p. 247). What is unique about Jesus words in Luke (compared to Matthew and Mark) is when he says, “Daily.” Sacrifice is not just a one-time big event, but a daily commitment to walk with Christ. As you have read Romans 12:1 each day and worked through the questions this week, where is God calling for you to live out His presence in this world? What holds you back from total surrender? How do you sense God calling you to total surrender?
