Christ the King: Our LORD’S Kingship

Christ-is-king

Pastor John  delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Psalm 93:1-2 (BELIEVE).

Monday: Read John 13:13; Acts 2:36; Revelation 19:16. Titles reveal important information about the person to whom they refer. What are Jesus’ titles in these passages of Scripture? Summarize what these titles reveal about Jesus.

Tuesday: Read Colossians 1:16-17; Colossians 1:18, Romans 14:9. According to these Scriptures, what is Jesus Lord of? Do you agree that Jesus should have the same place in our hearts that he holds in the universe? What changes, if any, need to be made in your life to more accurately reflect your answer?

Wednesday: Read Colossians 3:23-24. In this Scripture, how does Paul tell us that we can honor the LORD our God and King? What are habits in your life that do not honor God in this way and what are habits that do honor God?

Thursday: Read Luke 7:46-49. What is a good way to evaluate if Christ is truly LORD of your life? What does the Lordship of Jesus mean to you personally?

Friday: Read Luke 18:28-30. How was the Lordship and Kingship of Jesus seen in the lives and behavior of the twelve apostles? How did Jesus respond? Where in your life have you “left home or wife or brother?” Was it easy to do or difficult to do? How did you see God’s strength holding you up during this time?

Saturday: Read Philippians 3:13-15. What attitude do we see faith in Jesus Christ placing in the heart of a mature Christ-Follower?  What is the prize to which God is calling you?

Think: What Happens Next?

Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on John 14:1-2 (BELIEVE, p. 158).

Monday: Read Revelation 21:3-4 (BELIEVEp. 168). When you think of life in heaven, what do you think of? When John thinks of life in heaven, what do you notice he writes? What do you like best about John’s heavenly description?

Tuesday: Read 2 Kings 2:14 (BELIEVEp. 160). It turns out that the LORD, the God of Elijah, is still at work in this verse. What legacy of faith have you inherited? What legacy are you passing on? What would you like to pass on to others?

Wednesday: Read Luke 16:31 (BELIEVEp. 162). Why do you believe what you believe about heaven? What has been your source of information for your belief? Why does Jesus feel that Moses and the prophets are enough for the rich man’s brothers to believe?

Thursday: Read Revelation 21:1-2 (BELIEVEp. 168). What images do you see John painting of heaven and life with God? How are you keeping God at the center of your life today and your life in heaven one day?

Friday: Read Luke 16:27 (BELIEVEp. 162). Who are you praying for to know Jesus? Who are you thanking God for that He used to lead you to Jesus? Who might you start praying for to invite to our Christmas Eve services and the second part of BELIEVE in January?

Saturday: Read Matthew 6:9a-10. John Ortberg describes the “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done” petition of the Lord’s Prayer as asking God, “Make up there, come down here.” Where would you like to see God’s heavenly kingdom work in your life? Even better, where are you seeing God’s heavenly kingdom work in your life?

Think: What Is God’s Call On My Life?

Newspaper-sections

Pastor Burkey delivered this week’s message from God’s Life-building Word based on Psalm 24:1-2 (BELIEVE, p. 142).

Monday: Read Psalm 24:1-2 (BELIEVE p. 144). Since God is the owner of everything and everyone, why does He call us to manage? Where do you need to remember God is the owner in your life? Where will you pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance today

Tuesday: Read Psalm 24:3-4 (BELIEVE p. 144). We cannot save ourselves, only God can make us clean. We are called to own up to our sins, confess them to God, and seek His forgiveness. Making us clean provides forgiveness. Making us pure reflects that we live out His priorities for our lives. Why is making us clean and pure in heart, work that only God can do? What sins do you need to confess today and receive God’s forgiveness? Where do you need clarity in living out God’s priorities for your life? As you answer these questions, spend time with God in prayer.

Wednesday: Read Mark 12:42 (BELIEVE p. 153). When have you made an “all in” gift to God with time, treasure and/or talent? Why did you go “all in” with God? Where do you need to stay “all in” with God?

Thursday: Read Mark 12:43-44 (BELIEVE p. 153). Why was the widow’s gift so significant to Jesus? How is it significant to you? Where have you seen an example of such generosity? When have you received examples of such generosity?

Friday: Read 1 Samuel 1:20 (BELIEVE p. 149). Hannah’s prayers are answered! What deep desire or difficult situation do you need to turn into prayer to God? When has God answered your prayer in a challenging time? Take time to praise Him for that answer and for the one you need Him to answer.

Saturday: Read 1 Samuel 1:27-28 (BELIEVE p. 150). How do you think Hannah felt giving Samuel to God? Why? What promise have you made to God that He might want completed in your life? What’s holding you back from fulfilling that promise? What moves you towards fulfilling that promise?

Tuesday: Read Luke 10:25-37 (BELIEVEp. 138). Parables are stories about how God works in this world. What does the Parable of the Good Samaritan tell you about how Jesus works in this world? When do you see yourself like the levite/priest, the Samaritan or the one robbed? Why is mercy a key component to compassion, but not the only part of compassion?
